State of the Union 2016 - Towards a Europe that Protects, Empowers and Defends European Commission President Jean-Claude Juncker delivered his 2016 State of the Union address, before the Members of the European Parliament in Strasbourg on 14th September where he took stock of achievements of the past year and presented his priorities for the year ahead. He outlined how the Commission will address the most pressing challenges the European Union is facing. Every year in September, the President of the European Commission delivers his State of the Union speech before the European Parliament. The speech kick-starts the dialogue with the Parliament and Council and is a precursor to the EC Work Programme for 2017.READ MORE

UN climate change COP22 conference get underway in Marrakech Morocco is hosting this year’s conference from 7th to 18th November in Bab Ighli, Marrakech. It will be the UNFCCC’s 22nd ’Conference of the Parties’ (COP 22) and the Kyoto Protocol’s 12th ’Conference of the Parties serving as the Meeting of the Parties’ (CMP 12). Parties to the UN Framework Convention on Climate Change (UNFCCC) and the Kyoto Protocol meet once a year at high level to discuss how to advance international action to combat climate change. COP22 is set to be an ’Action and Implementation’ COP. It aims to demonstrate that commitments made in Paris are being implemented, and to act as a catalyst for further action. Science and Policy Making : towards a new dialogue More than 600 professionals from the worlds of science and politics converged in Brussels in September to share expertise on how best to connect scientific evidence with government decision-making. INGSA is a collaborative platform for policy exchange, capacity building and research across diverse global science advisory organisations and national systems. The conference Science and Policy making, organized by INGSA in partnership with the European Commission, brought together scientists and engineers from over 72 countries to exchange of best-practices. EU Green Capital & Green Leaf Good Practice reports available from here Two new reports from EU Green Capitals and the Green Leaf award have been published to showcase good practices to share among cities across Europe. The good practices of applicant cities and the benchmarking their environmental performances represent stories that are worth sharing in Europe and beyond. The reports are being made available to our member environmental professionals throughout Europe who work and advise cities on environment and sustainability issues. READ MORE
